• Onsite registration will be held Friday from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Newport Visitor's Center. Please note that there is NO ONSITE DAY OF REGISTRATION available on Sunday morning.

• Space is limited to the first 4,000 participants.

Shuttles will begin transporting athletes from the Newport Visitors Center to the starting line in Jamestown beginning at 5:30 a.m. It is critical to event operations that all athletes abide by their assigned shuttle time. Times are based on your registration order. Those participants that signed up earliest have the later shuttle times. No shuttles will leave Newport after 6:35 a.m. Shuttles are available for registered participants only. You will need your race bib to board the shuttle. Bib numbers posted on website.

6:15 a.m: Bib #’s 1-1000
6:00 a.m: Bib #’s 1001-2000
5:45 a.m: Bib #’s 2001-3000
5:30 a.m: Bib #’s 3001+ and day of packet pick-ups

Packet Pickup

You must bring a photo ID to packet pick up. You will not be given a bib without identification due to security reasons. If you plan to pick up bibs for multiple participants you must have a photo copy of their ID to do so. All participants are welcome to join us on any of the following dates. We encourage participants to attend the Friday registration to avoid long lines on Saturday.

Friday, October 24: Newport Visitors Center, 3 p.m - 7 p.m
Saturday, October 25: Newport Visitors Center, 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Sunday, October 26: Newport Visitors Center, 5:25 a.m. - 6:30 a.m. (no onsite registration available)


Paid parking will be available at the Gateway Center in Newport, R.I. Space is limited in this lot so we encourage you to park throughout Newport, however please be aware that parking meters and major lots are still charging at this time of year. Suggested Parking Locations.

Jamestown Drop-Off

There is a drop off location for participants in Jamestown not wishing to take the shuttles. This is at the intersection of Freebody Drive and East Shore Road. This specific location is designated for the safety of our athletes and volunteers as well as drivers using the roadways. Please only drop participants off at this location and do not exit your vehicle until you are greeted by our volunteers and do not get dropped off on Rt. 138 by the Toll Plaza.


The Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run is a 4 mile run/walk produced by the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority. This event is not-for-profit and 100% of proceeds will go to support local not-for-profits.

The Race:

This event is the most unique road race experience in the northeast! Once a year pedestrians are allowed to run or walk across the Claiborne Pell Bridge from Jamestown to Newport, R.I.

The primary goals of the Pell Bridge Run are to fundraise for local not-for-profit organizations and to promote a healthy/active lifestyle.

When: The race will be held on October 26, 2014 at 7:15 a.m.
Where: Race starts in Jamestown and ends in Downtown Newport.
Who: Open to runners or walkers. Must be able to do three miles in an hour pace.


2014 online registration is now closed. Onsite registration is available Friday and Saturday but please note that there is NO ONSITE REGISTRATION on Sunday, race morning.

Important Race Information:

Parking & Shuttles

Parking: There is NO PARKING at the race start in Jamestown. All athletes must use the shuttles from Newport or be dropped off at the designated athlete drop off locations. Parking Locations Map.

Shuttles: Shuttles will run from the Newport Convention and Visitors Bureau in Downtown Newport to the race starting line in Jamestown beginning at 5:30 a.m.

Drop Off Location: Athletes wishing to be dropped off near the starting line coming from Newport will take the East Shore Rd exit just after the toll plaza and head north on East Shore Road until they arrive at the designated drop off location. Drop-Off Locations Map.

Athletes coming from the West Bay will take the first exit in Jamestown and follow signage to the designated drop-off location. NO PEDESTRIANS ARE ALLOWED TO EXIT THEIR VEHICLES ON Route 138.

Gear Drop Off

Due to the early start time and race distance, there will be no gear drop off at the start or finish before the race. Dress appropriately for the cold and wind. It is required that athletes wishing to shed layers do so before they get on the bridge. Do not leave any items on the bridge. All clothing collected will be donated to charity.

Traffic Impact

The Newport/Pell Bridge Run will not be shut down on race day. Athletes will cross the Pell Bridge in the east bound lane while the bridge will remain open for two way traffic traveling in the two west bound lanes. Slight delays can be expected on the bridge from 5:30 a.m. thru 9:00 a.m. Small parts of East Shore and Canonicus Roads in Jamestown will be closed from 7:00-7:45 a.m. on race day. In Downtown Newport, small portions of Farewell St. and America’s Cup Avenue will be closed from 7:00-9:00 a.m.


The top male and female finisher along with the top three age group award winners will be recognized at the post race festival. More Info.


Water, hot chocolate and coffee will be offered at the starting line in Jamestown. We will host one on-course water stop at the base of the Pell Bridge in Newport. This year we will host a post race festival at the Newport Yachting Center. Participants will be provided with water, bagels and fruit in a designated athlete only tent.


Due to the unique nature of the race course and the time of the year, there is a potential for race cancelation due to the weather. Please dress appropriately for potential wind and cold temperatures. Unfortunately there is no rain date and no refunds will be permitted. Please review our cancelation policy.
