The Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Registration will be capped at 4,000 runners this year. Sign up early to ensure your spot in this run/walk.

Mission:

The Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run is a 4 mile run/walk produced by the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority. This event is not-for-profit and 100% of proceeds will go to support local not-for-profits.

The Race:

This event is the most unique road race experience in the northeast! Once a year pedestrians are allowed to run or walk across the Claiborne Pell Bridge from Jamestown to Newport, R.I.

The primary goals of the Pell Bridge Run are to fundraise for local not-for-profit organizations and to promote a healthy/active lifestyle.

When: The race will be held on November 10, 2013 at 6:30 a.m.
Where: Race starts in Jamestown and ends in Downtown Newport.
Who: Open to runners or walkers. Must be able to do three miles in an hour pace.

Important Race Information:

Parking & Shuttles

Parking: There is NO PARKING at the race start in Jamestown. All athletes must use the shuttles from Newport or be dropped off at the designated athlete drop off locations. Parking Locations Map.

Shuttles: Shuttles will run from the Newport Convention and Visitors Bureau in Downtown Newport to the race starting line in Jamestown beginning at 4:30 a.m.

Drop Off Location: Athletes wishing to be dropped off near the starting line coming from Newport will take the East Shore Rd exit just after the toll plaza and head north on East Shore Road until they arrive at the designated drop off location. Drop-Off Locations Map.

Athletes coming from the West Bay will take the first exit in Jamestown and follow signage to the designated drop-off location. NO PEDESTRIANS ARE ALLOWED TO EXIT THEIR VEHICLES ON Route 138.

Gear Drop Off

Due to the early start time and race distance, there will be no gear drop off at the start or finish before the race. Dress appropriately for the cold and wind. It is required that athletes wishing to shed layers do so before they get on the bridge. Do not leave any items on the bridge. All clothing collected will be donated to charity.

Traffic Impact

The Pell Bridge will not be shut down on race day. Athletes will cross the Pell Bridge in the east bound lanes while the bridge will remain open for two way traffic traveling in the two west bound lanes. Slight delays can be expected on the bridge from 4:30 a.m. thru 8:00 a.m. Small parts of East Shore and Canonicus Roads in Jamestown will be closed from 5:30-7:00 a.m. on race day. In Downtown Newport, small portions of Farewell St. and America's Cup Avenue will be closed from 6:45-8:00 a.m.

The top 3 male and female finishers will be recognized at the post race festival. More Info.

Weather

Due to the unique nature of the race course and the time of the year, there is a potential for race cancelation due to the weather. Please dress appropriately for potential wind and cold temperatures. Unfortunately there is no rain date and no refunds will be permitted. Please review our cancelation policy.
